Clocher d'Artas

Lombard style Bell Tower of Artas is the last
remnant of the priory church built in the
eleventh century. The Cluniac Priory of Artas
called saint Pierre is mentioned in a bull of
Pope Urban II in 1095. In 1835, the cloister
was demolished. Only a part was kept
for placing the town hall and the school.
Nowadays you can see two heads, which are
carved on the capital of a small column of
the old bell tower. Another of them stick his
tongue out to the inhabitants.
